Nantahala Gorge

Adventure is a great and interesting beast. We drive for new experiences in our lives but we never seem to want to settle down. Mike and I took an adventure this past weekend to the North Carolina mountains to hit up off-road trails and soak in all that we could before the school year starts to get the best of us. TJ and Becca (recently married) were there as always to share the time with us and they brought along Ben and Natalie from Atlanta. Everyone seemed to have something to do this weekend that was uniquely suited to their liking. Ben and Natalie hit up the trails on foot while Mike and I decided to use our peddle power to tear up the mountains. TJ and Becca brought their kayaks and ran the river as usual. It was the first time for them to get out in the woods since they got married back in May and I was happy to be there with them.

Ever since the first time to the Nantahala Gorge I have hiked on the AT (Appalachian Trail) at the top of the ridge to the fire tower atop Wesser Bald to get a view of what I consider to be a piece of heaven. I watch God paint the mountains and sky with amazing colors. I always take a few moments to myself while up there to thank God for giving me a life to where I can take in his beauty on a daily basis and how little moments such as being on the top of that tower mean the world to me. For a second I can feel his warmth around me even though the cold winds blow against me. When I meet the right girl and have a wonderful family of my own, I am going to take them to the top of the tower. I wish to share it with anyone I can because when you are on top of that tower, you are in a different place. No worries and no troubles because life is truly good up there.
